Morley's Final Catalogue: Generally distributed everywhere: recorded from Bentley, Belstead, Wherstead, Ipswich, Rushmere (T. N. Waller), Foxhall (D), Hemley and Waldringfield (A. P. Waller), Aldeburgh. Monks Soham, Finburgh, West Stow, Tuddenham, Downham, Brandon; and Bungay.

Recent Suffolk Status: Common.

Life history: Single-brooded. Can come to light in numbers.

Identification: This species is more clearly marked than similar ones. Beautiful brocade is smaller, less clearly marked and has a white diagonal band. Pale-shouldered brocade is more brownish. Dusky brocade lacks the hairy eyes.

Habitat: Heathland, grassland, gardens.

Recorded in 50 (86%) of 58 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1940.
Last Recorded in 2023.
